FARM DINNER Next Farm Dinner:Chapel Hill Creamery Farm Dinner Monday, September 27 5:30 - 9:00 pm About seventeen years ago, the Chapel Hill Creamery began with a desire to make cheese. Portia McKnight and Flo Hawley had visited the Ashe County Cheese Plant, inspiring them to embark on their own cheese making enterprise. They then decided that to get the freshest, highest quality milk, they would raise their own herd of "cows that are healthy, happy, and improving the quality of the land", as one of the main missions of their business. Chapel Hill Creamery is located off Dairyland Road, with an 18 acre pasture of rye, clover and Red River crab grass. The cows move twice a day, allowing the cows to eat the very best part of the grass and allowing the grass to grow back before the pasture is used again. CH Creamery's Jersey cows produce creamy, rich, delicious milk, are tolerant of the heat and well suited to the intensive grazing system that Flo and Portia use. The excellence of their products is maintained by keeping the herd healthy, and by fastidious monitoring throughout production. So join us for a fun evening of great local food. Enjoy a special a la carte menu featuring dishes created with ingredients grown by Flo & Portia on their farm in addition to our regular (slightly abbreviated) menu. Gallery Current Exhibit:"Port Series" mixed media acrylic paintings by Jenifer Padilla August 17 - October 18, 2010 Public Reception: Monday, September 13th, 5:30 - 7:30 pm Jenifer Padilla paints with a visible fury, and also with calm, with the searching eyes of a lost tourist, and a mystical sense of where she is going. She brings natural and industrial objects, her immediate surroundings and distant places, memories and digital records into the construction of a place that seems both exotic and familiar. The weight and curves of immense fruit, and the flat silhouettes of songbirds reside in a world invaded by the eerie lines and shapes of relentless human activity. Her latest works are inspired by the North Carolina Port of Wilmington and surrounding areas. Of this body of work Padilla says, "I was in awe when I first laid eyes on the vast collection of colorful shapes and structures, fenced in and protected. I was excited to get in and document this industrial landscape." To see more of Jenifer Padilla's work, please visit her website. NEW Lunch ItemsFresh! Fast! $5 Lunch!
